Why do multiple business names show a match for the same EIN?
The IRS matches based on a “name control” — usually the first four characters of the business name. So similar names like “Fidelity Capital” and “Fidelity Group” may both return a valid match for the same EIN if they share the same first four letters. This is IRS-standard logic used by all verification providers, including Cobalt.
